Cigarette smoking in Films

I recently saw the movie Big Eyes and while I thought that this motion picture overall was a good motion picture I was extremely disgusted with the non-stop depiction of cigarette smoking in this film, mostly by the primary character played by the actor Amy Adams.

Why do we still live in a world where we allow tobacco companies to pay movie production business money to show people smoking cigarettes? Obviously this film was set in the 1960's where people smoked far more commonly than they do today, however why show smoking cigarettes in films? There is no factor for this at all, and the extent that they showed all this smoking cigarettes in this movie was way out of percentage that would ever be thought about required to show an accurate depiction of life at that time.

Smoking is a terrible practice. Smoking cigarettes will certainly provide you cardiovascular disease and any number of cancers, the even worse being lung cancer. Smoking cigarettes ought to be prevented and today we need to be at least 10 years past from any new movie revealing any character cigarette smoking in any scene in any film.

While watching the motion picture Big Eyes I actually was screaming aloud at the movie screen since there was nobody else in the theater viewing this movie at 10:00 am on a Saturday early morning. I believed the movie was very good and it was a true story of another artist blatantly taking credit for his wife's paintings but with all that terrible cigarette smoking, for me, it really reduced just how much I liked this film a large amount. I am also surprised at stars like Amy Adams who consent to smoke so often in motion pictures, especially this one. I am sure this is one of the primary choices that a manufacturer has to make to generate the earnings they require to make a motion picture, however eventually there has to be some sound judgment or decency to disappoint this dreadful practice so typically in motion pictures today. Will this trend ever alter? Will a law ever be passed? I sure hope so for all our sakes.
